Peoria il driving test routes series#
Afterwards, the small scale developer community has bonded together through a series of Meetups and an online network. The Innovation Team formed a Host Committee to plan a Small Scale Development Workshop in Peoria in early 2018. Often, they learn by doing and rely on a community of fellow small scale developers for support and guidance. A small scale developer is someone who cares about their community and wants to make a positive impact by investing in the construction or improvement of a small building. Like many historic cities our size, Peoria has some vacant and underutilized buildings – but small scale developers are poised to breathe new life into those buildings. The semi-permanent parklet was used to collect data on the impact of park let s on the corridor, with the final goal of presenting that data and a proposed policy to City Council so that parklet s can be deployed community-wide. The pilot culminated in a semi-permanent parklet near Las Delicias Ice Cream and Central Illinois Ballet for a period of three months. The pilot included several prototypes of a parklet, with each version adapting to better fit the needs and wants of users. The West Main Street Parklet was a tactical urbanism pilot developed during the Help Shape West Main engagement as a way to create points of interest along the corridor, showcase people actively using the corridor, slow traffic and signal investment. For a fraction of the amount that a traditional infrastructure project would cost, a tactical urbanism pilot can show that there’s neighborhood interest in its permanent implementation or that it would be a flop, preventing a costly mistake in the future. What can you do if you want to change the way a street looks or feels, but it’s not in the capital plan to rebuild the street? Tactical urbanism is the practice of using affordable and temporary materials to test street improvements in the short-term, in hopes of better investing larger sums of money in the long-term.
